Fig Tree Pocket – Child Care Centre

completion date
December 2011

client
Fig Tree Pocket Early Childhood Centre

project function
38.7 sqm wall,
30m length, 2.0m height

scope
Durawall was engaged to remove a rotten timber retaining wall and fence and construct a new concrete retaining wall at approximately 600mm higher, to a maximum height of 2.0 metres, to allow the playground to be levelled out for an improved play area. Durawall were also commissioned to perform the following tasks: obtain council certification and engineering on behalf of the client; minimise erosion by levelling the gravel areas and pathways along the building; supply and install a chainwire fence to enclose the playground; and supply fill and turf to re-establish the playground.

challenges
The access land beside the childcare centre had been sold so there was a short timeframe for construction before settlement which was just after Christmas! In addition, an excessive amount of wet weather minimised the project time-frame further.

result
The complex site and wet weather presented various construction challenges, however the project was completed on time and within budget.
